Nominated for Book of the Year
Very happy to say that How To Be Your Own Bodyguard has been nominated for book of the year at the British Martial Arts Awards Ceremony this year, 2018. I’m guessing that to a writer of normal books, this is no big deal. It’s not on the New York Times bestseller list, and nor is it a nominee for the Booker Award or a Pulitzer. For me, however, as a lifetime martial artist, to be nominated by my peers in the UK is HUGE. When you consider it’s my first effort at writing a self-published book, it’s an even bigger deal.
The Competition
I am absolutely blown away by the competition. We’re talking about Gavin Mulholland’s incredible “Four Shades of Black” and Rory Miller’s “Meditations on Violence.” If you haven’t read either one of them, do yourself a favor and do so. They’re both amazing. For traditional martial artists who may have drifted away from the dojo due to being jaded, Gavin’s book will be right up your alley. Rory’s is great for martial artists and people concerned with their own safety.
Thank You
Thanks are due to all of you who’ve bought the book or the app and especially to those of you who’ve taken the time and effort to write a review on Amazon or Goodreads. You probably have no idea how important those are to writers. Trust me. They’re massive. So again, thank you. Couldn’t have done it without your support and reviews.
More Books On The Way
Keep watching this space. I’m working on some new books. One will be an in-depth look at the Bug In Bag we cover in How To Be Your Own Bodyguard. Another will be a collection of tales from my time in the French Foreign Legion.
Upcoming Book Signing
If you live in the Charlotte area, I’ll be doing a book signing at the Barnes and Noble in Birkdale Village, Huntersville, NC 28078. It will be on Sun March 4th at 3 pm. Love to see you there.
